International Event (Portfolio development) 2025
Overview
The Department of Fashion Design, Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, organized an International Seminar on “Portfolio Management” on 28.01.2025 at the Phase II Campus. The session was conducted by Ms. Mekeba Lewis, International Academic at Chelsea, Wimbledon College of Arts, University of the Arts, London. Students from the first year, second year & third year of B.Sc. Fashion Design attended the seminar. The seminar focused on the comprehensive portfolio management process for fashion students, with emphasis on the following: Creative presentation, branding, and research integration. Structuring visually engaging boards to highlight unique styles, technical skills, and conceptual themes
Outcome
Students gained a clear understanding of the portfolio creation process, from concept development to final presentation. They learned the importance of effective visual communication, enabling them to present their work with creativity and professionalism. The session enhanced their ability to brand and position their portfolios for academic evaluations, internships, and industry opportunities. By understanding how to balance aesthetic appeal with technical accuracy, students are now better prepared to confidently showcase their skills in both academic and professional settings.
International Relations & Collaboration Cell - Embark Your Global Career Connect 2024
Overview:
The Department of Fashion Design, in collaboration with the International Relations & Collaboration Cell of the Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, organized a seminar on “Embark Your Global Career Connect” on 12.04.2024 at the Adayalampattu Phase II Campus. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. A.R. Arunachalam, Dean (Academics), Phase II. The guest speaker, Dr. Cindy Millman, professor of business innovation at the University for Creative Arts, UK, shared valuable insights. Students from 1st- and 2nd-year B.Sc. Fashion Design attended the seminar and actively engaged in discussions with the speaker. The session provided awareness about the scope of fashion courses abroad, available postgraduate opportunities, and scholarship schemes in countries like the US and UK.
Outcome:
The seminar broadened students’ understanding of global fashion education pathways, enabling them to explore international academic and career opportunities. Participants gained clarity on admission processes, course structures, and funding options for studying abroad. The interactive nature of the session enhanced students’ confidence in pursuing global exposure and helped them recognize the importance of aligning their skills with international industry standards.
