Diwali Bazaar 2023
Overview:
The Department of Fashion Design – Style Club, Adayalampattu Phase II Campus, Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, organized the Diwali Bazaar on 08.11.2023 and 09.11.2023. The event celebrated the vibrant culture and traditions of Diwali through a variety of stalls offering diyas, candles, traditional clothing, jewelry, artwork, festive pastries, and more. It served as a platform for students to showcase their creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and cultural engagement while fostering festive cheer across the campus.
Outcome:
Provided students with hands-on experience in product design, presentation, and sales. Enhanced entrepreneurial and event management skills. Encouraged teamwork, coordination, and leadership among participants. Strengthened the student’s ability to connect cultural heritage with modern market trends. Promoted campus community bonding through celebration and cultural exchange. Gave practical exposure to customer interaction and business promotion techniques.
Diwali Bazaar 2024
Overview
The Department of Fashion Design – Style Club, Adayalampattu Phase II Campus, Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, successfully organized the Diwali Bazaar on 23.10.2024. The event was inaugurated by our Honorable President Er. A.C.S. Arun Kumar Sir and celebrated the rich culture and traditions of Diwali. The bazaar featured a variety of stalls displaying art, diyas, candles, traditional clothing, jewelry, games, and delicious pastries, creating a vibrant, festive atmosphere on campus.
Outcome
The event provided students with practical exposure to event management, merchandising, and customer engagement. It offered a platform for creative expression and entrepreneurial skill development through product design and sales. The bazaar promoted traditional arts and crafts, fostering cultural appreciation among participants and visitors.
Diwali Bazaar 2025
Overview:
The Department of Fashion Design – Style Club of Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute successfully organized the “Mega Diwali Bazaar – Season 3” on 15/10/2025 at the main campus and on 16/10/2025 at the Phase II campus. The grand two-day celebration was held on Day 1 at Phase I and Day 2 at Phase II, showcasing the immense creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of the fashion design students. The event commenced under the esteemed guidance of our Honorable President, Er. A.C.S. Arun Kumar, Sir. The bazaar created a lively festive ambience, uniting students and faculty to celebrate art, fashion, and tradition through an impressive range of stalls.
Outcome:
The Mega Diwali Bazaar – Season 3 provided students with an experiential learning opportunity to display their creativity, design sense, and business acumen. The stalls showcased diverse products such as artworks, diyas, candles, traditional attire, jewelry, handmade crafts, and festive delicacies, beautifully reflecting the essence of Diwali. The event enhanced students’ entrepreneurial, organizational, and presentation skills while promoting cultural values and teamwork. Overall, the celebration was a resounding success, fostering creativity, collaboration, and the spirit of festivity across both phases.
Seminar on Boutique Management 2024
Overview:
The Department of Fashion Design, Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, organized a seminar on “Boutique Management” on 08/03/2024 at the Phase II campus. Ms. M. Mahmuda Begum, HoD – Fashion Design, delivered the welcome address, followed by the felicitation address by Dr. K. Senthilkumar, Dean (Administration), Phase II Campus. The resource person for the session was Ms. Lakshitha, Founder and Director of Lakshitha – The Designer Studio, Chennai. The seminar was highly interactive, with students actively engaging with the guest speaker and clarifying their queries.
Outcome:
Students from the First, Second, and Third Years of B.Sc. Fashion Design gained comprehensive insights into boutique management, including essential topics such as fabric sourcing, customer relationship management, branding, merchandising, and the practical steps involved in setting up and running a boutique. The session enhanced their understanding of industry practices and entrepreneurial skills, equipping them with the knowledge to apply these concepts in real-world scenarios. It also motivated them to explore creative business opportunities within the fashion sector, thereby strengthening their career preparedness and professional vision.
Seminar on Importance of Jute in Textile industry 2022
Overview:
The Department of Fashion Design, Dr. M. G. R. Educational and Research Institute, conducted an informative seminar on the “Importance of Jute in the Textile Industry” on 12/04/2022 at K101 Smart Room, Adayalampattu, Phase II Campus. The session was led by our esteemed chief guest, Mr. Ayyappan, deputy director of the National Jute Board, South Zone, Chennai. The seminar provided valuable insights into the significance, applications, and future prospects of jute within the textile sector, enriching students’ knowledge about sustainable and eco-friendly materials.
Outcome:
The seminar effectively enhanced students’ understanding about the importance of jute as a sustainable and eco-friendly material in the textile industry. Participants gained valuable knowledge about its diverse applications, environmental benefits, and growing demand in modern textile and fashion sectors. The session inspired students to explore innovative uses of jute and encouraged them to incorporate sustainable materials in their future design practices and professional careers.
Importance of Trend Forecasting in Fashion 2025
Overview:
The Department of Fashion Design, Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, organized an expert talk on “Importance of Trend Forecasting in Fashion” on 10/12/2025 at 11:30 AM in the K102 Smart Room. The session was delivered by Mr. Salman Ahmed Shariff, R & D Head and Subject Expert at ICAT Design & Media College, Chennai.
Outcome:
The expert talk provided students with valuable knowledge about trend forecasting and its role in the fashion industry. The session helped them understand how to analyze upcoming fashion trends, interpret market changes, and make informed design decisions. It also increased awareness about global fashion movements, emerging styles, and future innovations in the fashion sector. The lecture was highly informative and enriched the students’ understanding of how forecasting influences design development and industry practices.
Motivational talk on Stone to Diamond 2024
Overview:
The Department of Fashion Design and the Department of Computer Science at the Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute jointly organized a two-day Motivational Talk titled “Stone to Diamond” on 19.03.2024 and 20.03.2024 at the Phase II Campus. The guest of honor for the event was Mr. Ajay Rathnam, renowned film actor and motivational speaker. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. A.R. Arunachalam, Dean (Academics)/HoD-CS/Phase II. Students from the second-year B.Sc. Fashion Design and B.Sc. Computer Science actively participated and engaged with the guest speaker, making the session both interactive and insightful.
Outcome:
The session inspired students to recognize their inner potential and understand the journey of personal growth from being a ‘stone’ to becoming a ‘diamond.’ It instilled in them the values of perseverance, discipline, and self-confidence, motivating them to overcome challenges in both academic and personal life. Students developed a positive mindset, learned strategies for self-improvement, and felt encouraged to set and achieve higher goals. The talk also enhanced communication, teamwork, and resilience among participants, leaving a lasting motivational impact.
