Since 2018, Prof. L.R. Sassykova has maintained an active research collaboration with Prof. Dr. S. Sendilvelan, Joint Registrar (Research) at Dr. MGR ERI, Chennai. Recent Publication: Sustainable Biofuel Research
In June 2026, this collaboration yielded a new publication in Environments (MDPI, Q1 journal, Impact Factor 3.7), focused on producing environmentally friendly biofuel from waste cooking oil using aromatic bio-oil isolated from Anisomeles malabarica leaves. The study brought together researchers from Dr. MGR ERI, Farabi University, and Tsinghua University, China (in collaboration with Prof. Ruimao Hua), underscoring the growing reach of the university's green energy and sustainability research network across Asia and Central Asia.
New Frontier: A Multi-National Biomedical Research Platform
Building on this foundation of international cooperation, Prof. S. Sendilvelan and Dr. K. Gomathi, together with a consortium of scientists from Kazakhstan (https://farabi.university/), have submitted a major collaborative research proposal to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The proposed project, "Development of a Multitarget Personalized Platform for the Correction of Anxiety Depressive Disorders based on Genomic, Biomarker and Phytochemical Technologies," seeks to advance personalized approaches to mental health treatment by integrating genomic analysis, biomarker research, and phytochemical technologies.
If approved, the project would carry a proposed funding value of approximately Rs.14.02 crore (748,865,942.17 Kazakhstan Tenge), positioning it as one of the university's most ambitious international research collaborations to date. The proposal is currently under review with the Kazakhstan Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
Interdisciplinary Reach and Societal Relevance
Taken together, this body of collaborative work moves fluidly across mechanical and chemical engineering, catalytic and environmental chemistry, plant biology, and biomedical science — a breadth that mirrors the real-world problems it targets. Waste valorization studies (converting used cooking oil and industrial fly ash into usable, cleaner-burning resources) sit alongside plant-based bioactive compound research and, most recently, genomic and phytochemical work on mental health, showing how a single research partnership can move from the factory floor to the laboratory bench to the clinic.
This interdisciplinarity also gives the collaboration a distinctly societal orientation: cleaner fuels and industrial emission control address environmental and public-health burdens shared by both India and Kazakhstan, while the proposed anxiety-depressive disorder platform responds to a global rise in mental health need with a personalized, biomarker-driven approach rather than a one-size-fits-all treatment model.

It is with great pleasure that I share the recognition earned by my esteemed co-author and long-standing research collaborator, Prof. Dr. Larissa R. Sassykova of Farabi University, who has been named among the Top 50 best teachers and researchers in Kazakhstan for 2026, as part of the Independent Ranking of Universities in Demand in the Republic of Kazakhstan. https://farabi.university/news/106094?lang=ru
Prof. Sassykova is one of 24 KazNU faculty members to achieve this distinction — nearly half of all ranked participants nationwide, and among the highest representations from any single Kazakhstani university. This recognition reflects sustained excellence in research activity, high-impact publications in reputable scientific journals, leadership in major research projects, and contributions to training highly qualified personnel in her field.
This achievement is a testament to the strength of the scientific collaboration between Farabi University and Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, which we have built together since 2018. It further reinforces the value of our joint work and the international research partnership we continue to grow.
