FDP - Intelligent Systems and Digital Technologies

The Department of Information Technology, Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, in association with the Center of Excellence in Cyber Physical Systems (CPS), organized a Five-Day Virtual Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Intelligent Systems and Digital Technologies” from 23.02.2026 to 27.02.2026 through an online platform

Day – 1 (23.02.2026) The first day session commenced with a formal welcome address by Dr. N. Kanya, Head of the Department, Department of Information Technology. form the foundation of modern intelligent systems. 

Day – 2 (24.02.2026)

 The second day session began with a welcome address by Dr. Dahlia Sam and felicitation by Prof. Dr. D. Viswanathan, Rector.. Day – 3 (25.02.2026) The third day session started with a welcome address by Mrs. C. Tamil Selvi and felicitation by Prof. Dr. V. Cyril Raj, Additional Registrar.

resource person Mr. Nixon Ebenezer, Industry Trainer, TechKnots, Chennai, delivered the session. Day – 4 (26.02.2026) The fourth day session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. R. Selvi and felicitation by Prof. Dr. Malini Pande. ”The session covered NLP techniques, text processing methods, and the working of transformer-based Large Language Models.

Applications such as chatbots, conversational AI, text analytics, and automated language systems were also discussed. Day – 5 (27.02.2026) The final day session began with a welcome address by Dr. N. Kanya and felicitation by Prof. Dr. N. Ethiraj, Dean of Engineering & Technology.

The resource person Dr. Vithya Ganesan, Professor, KL University, delivered the concluding lecture. She spoke on “Digital Transformation, Innovation and Research Opportunities.”

FDP - Funding and Grants: Strategies for Writing Winning Project Proposals

The Department of Information Technology, Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute Chennai, in association with the Center of Excellence in Cyber Physical System, successfully organized a five-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) titled “Funding and Grants: Strategies for Writing Winning Project Proposals” from 22 December 2025 to 27 December 2025 through an online platform.

The FDP was designed to enhance the research capabilities of faculty members by providing comprehensive insights into funding opportunities, proposal writing strategies, evaluation mechanisms, and innovation-driven research. Eminent resource persons from premier research organizations, universities, and innovation ecosystems shared their expertise across the five days.

Day 1 Resource Person: Dr. Benadict Rakesh Senior Scientist, Department of Hydro, Bio & Electrometallurgy, CSIR – Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT), rates.

Day 2: Dr. E. Shanmugapriya Assistant Professor (SRG), Department of Computer Science and Engineering, College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, Chennai participants’ confidence in preparing competitive proposals.

 Day 3 : Dr. Abha Chhabra Scientist/Engineer – ‘SG’, Head, RESPOND & Research Management Division, Space Applications Centre (SAC), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Ahmedabad  Day 4 Dr. B. Sathiyabhama Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Sona College of Technology, Salem Provided advanced strategies for writing winning proposals, focusing on novelty identification, outcome mapping, feasibility analysis, risk assessment,.

The five-day Faculty Development Program was highly successful and effectively met its objectives. The expert sessions provided valuable theoretical knowledge and practical insights into securing research funding and writing winning project proposals.

FDP - Framework and Implementation of NEP, 2020

A Five days Virtual Faculty development programme on Framework and Implementation of NEP2020 was successfully conducted in the Dr.M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, Tamil nadu, Chennai on 26th -30th 2024 by Department of Information Technology.

 The FDP programme received totally 335 participants are joined from throughout India. On 26th December 2024 (First Day) the programme was inaugurated in the morning through You tube and was simultaneously made LIVE using Stream Dr,N.Kanya Prof.& Head of the Department, welcomed the chief guest

for the Day 1: Dr.S.Priya, Dean Academics, NEP nodal officer, Academy of Maritime education and training, delivered her speech in the area of Empowering Educators for NEP 2020:
Strategies and Innovations for Transformative Learning.

The session was informative. Day 2:Dr.Mohan Kumar, Professor, Department of Commerce, Kristu Jayanthi College, Bangalore, delivered his in the area of Empowering college professors to integrate 21st century skills for Enhancing student Employability and Entrepreneurship in Higher education.. Day 3:Dr.Jebarani Evangeline, Associate Professor & HOD, SNS College of Engineering, delivered her speech in the area of Integration of Research AND Innovation into curriculam.

The session was informative. Day 4:Dr.J.Bavani, HOD – B.Com Hon VIT Business School, VIT, Chennai, delivered her speech in the area of Faculty Development of Capacity Building for NEP Implementation.The session was informative. Day 5:A.Meena Priyadharsini, Associate Professor, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, delivered her speech in the area of multidisciplinary approach in NEP. The session was informative.

FDP - Intellectual Property Rights and Patents

The Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Department of Information Technology of Dr. M.G.R Educational and Research Institute, under the guidance of President Er. A.C.S. Arunkumar., conducted a five days Virtual Faculty Development Program on “Intellectual Property Rights and Patents” from 20th to 24th May 2024. Professor Dr. S Geetha Lakshmi, Vice Chancellor, Dr. M.G.R Educational and Research Institute inaugurated the FDP and delivered the inaugural address. Dr. N Kanya, the head of the department, extended her welcome address to all attendees.

 On the day 2 of the FDP, the Session was started by Dr. Kapil Arya, Principal Senior Scientist at CSIR-IPU, New Delhi, on the topic “IPR Overview- Essentials of Copyright and Trademarks“.On the day 3 of the FDP, the Session was started by Dr. Yogesh Dhoble, Sr. Principal Senior Scientist at CSIR-IPU, New Delhi, on the topic “ Essentials of Patents and Industrial Designs “ .

He explained about industrial design rights are not there to support the technical features of the article. On the day 4 of the FDP, the Session was started by Dr. Lipika Pattnaik, Sr. Principal Senior Scientist at CSIR-IPU, New Delhi, on the topic “Patent filing and Prosecution “.On the day 5 of the FDP, the Session was started by Dr. T. Pavan Kumar, Senior Scientist at CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar, on the topic “Patent Claims- Hands on Exercise “.

Finally the FDP was ended with the Vote of Thanks by Mrs. C.Mythili.

FDP - Deep Dive Into Data Science

 An FDP Event on the title “Deep Dive into Data Science-Statistics and Data handling through Excel and SPSS” was organized by the Department of Information Technology in association with Academic Staff College on 9th October 2023 to 12th October 2023 and 14th October 2023(5 days) between 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Zoom Online Meeting.

The Guest Speaker was Dr.A.G. Vijayanarayanan, Assistant Professor, PG and Research Department of Commerce, DG Vaishnav College The session started with a welcome address by Dr.K.Gomathi, Professor & Addl.HOD, Department of BT, the brief introduction of guest speaker given by Mr.A.Kameshwaran, Assistant Professor, Department of IT that the faculties were able to think and answer.

also explained the queries of faculties in a simplified manner. To end the event, Dr.K.Gomathi, Professor & Addl.HOD , Department of BT delivered the vote of thanks. Faculties who attended the event got an idea about the data handling skills.

FDP - Five days International Faculty Development on Education 5.0

The Faculty Development Program organized by the Department of Information Technology received an overwhelming response of around 2000 registrations from various countries. The session was then handed over to him. Prof. Samuel Johnson K explained beautifully about the holistic approach to teaching that includes human value system, life skills, handling emotions and living at harmony in all levels.

He emphasized the role of education in transforming the students to not only implement knowledge in career but become better personalities with right understanding inorder to develop Society 5.0.

The second day of the Faculty Development Program started by Dr. N. Kanya, HOD-IT welcoming the resource person and the participants.

The guest speaker of the day was Mrs.Grace Mary Kanaga who delivered a detailed session on ‘Outcome Based Education’. The guest of the day was formally welcomed by Mr. Jayasankar, Assistant Professor, Department of IT. Mrs. Grace Mary Kanaga provided a good insight on course outcomes and program outcomes. She also explained the necessity of Outcome Based Education as opposed to the traditional style of education.

 Lastly, the forum was open for questions from the audience which was answered by the resource person. The lecture was very beneficial to all the academicians who attended.

FDP - Five Days Faculty Development Program on Python

A five day Faculty Development program on the title “Python Programming” was organized by the Department of Information Technology from 12.12.2022 to 16.12.2022.The speaker was Dr.Vivek Dubey Associate Professor BIET, Hyderabad.

The session started with a brief introduction about the speaker Dr.Vivek Dubey by Dr.Kiruthiga Devi It was followed by a formal welcome address by Prof. Dr. N. Kanya, HOD-IT. Dr. V. Cyril Raj, Additional Registrar felicitated the guest and gave the felicitation address. Dr. Balasubramanian, Director IQAC addressed the gathering, he mentioned about the role of Python Programming after which Mrs. K. Nithya thanked everyone. Dr.Vivek Dubey in his lecture explained about Python programming and its importance.

The overall event was coordinated by Mrs.K. Nithya, Assistant Professor and Mrs. Monica Gaja, Assistant Professor. We thank our honorable President Er. A.C.S. Arun Kumar for his continuous support in conducting such events.

FDP - BigData / Hadoop

2 days Faculty development Program on BigData / Hadoop was organized by the Department of Information Technology in Association with Imarticus Learning Pvt Ltd., on 26th and 27th August 2022 between 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Zoom Online platform.

The guest speaker was Mr. Tarang Ghadale, BigData Consultant, Ensemble Technology. The session started with a brief introduction given by Mr. Ahamed Khalid, Vice President., Imarticus Learning. with a few real life examples to explain about BigData.

 He explained about how to handle BigData and its various applications. He elaborated on Hadoop technology, how to store the data and retrieve the data from HDFS, how to use map reduce functions. He gave a clear hand-on training that made the participant understand the concepts clearly. He made the session very interactive and informative.

He also answered all the queries of raised by the participants. To end the event, Mrs.C. Tamilselvi, delivered the vote of thanks. Participants who attended the program gained knowledge on BigData and How to work with Hadoop.

FDP - STC on Machine Learning Using Python

The Department of Information Technology was a remote centre for STC on “Machine Learning Using Python” conducted by NITTR Chandigarh, from 28.03.2022 to 1.04.2022 between 9.30 a.m to 4.5 p.m.

The session was streamed online through google meet and our partcipants attended offline in SUN JAVA lab..

The STC was started on 28.3.2022 with an introduction by Er. Shano Solanki. This was followed by a formal welcome address by Prof. Dr. N. Kanya, HOD-IT. The explained The importance and need of updating the knowledge of the teaching community was explained by Dr.V.CYRIL RAJ, Additional Registrar(Admin) and Professor, CSE.

The faculty were very impressed and all the sessions were also interesting. Movie Rating Prediction using Collaborative Filtering and Low Rank Matrix Factorization demonstrated by Dr. Gaurav Kumar along with a practical session. All the faculties should keep a stronghold on their updating current trends and always try to learn new technologies through short term courses and Faculty Development programmes. Applications of Machine Learning in the agriculture field like corp Recommendation using Random Forest was explained by Shruti Wadhwa.

At the end of each session all the queries are answered by the respective resource person. Last session of the last day, quiz was conducted. All the participants are given certificates based on their attendance and quiz marks.

FDP - ESSENTIALS OF OUTCOME BASED EDUCATION

A Five days Faculty development programme (FDP-2021) on Essential of Outcome Based Education was successfully conducted in the Dr.M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, Tamil nadu, Chennai on 15th – 19thMarch 2021 by Department of Information Technology. The FDP programme received totally 220 participants are joined from throughout India with 13 states and other countries Philippines, Nigeria, Afganisthan.

DAY1: The next session , the resource person Dr.S. Neelavathy Pari handled the session who emphasized the need for OBE. She has explained deficiencies of traditional system and how to overcome this.

 And further shared that it helps to improve the performance of faculty in teaching and highlighted the importance and objectives of organizing faculty development programmes. She briefed the participants about the subjects chosen for the FDP and highlighted the reasons and importance of the same.

She explains about importance of OBE is a powerful education strategy that should be used as a focus for curriculum planning, as a means of making informed discussions about the approaches to teaching and learning be adopted, and as a basis for the assessment of students/trainees and of the education programme

Finally he has given more examples for co-po relationships, and how Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) is working. He patiently answered all the queries raised by participants .

Finally he explains attainment of PO and Course outcome attainment. He has explained with some examples to prepare PO and CO. Many participants are asked the questions. He has patiently answered all the queries raised by participants.

The event was moderated by Dr. Dalila Sam, Associate Professor, Department of Information Technology. Mr. Kameswaran Assistant Professor, Dept. of Information Technology gave the formal vote of thanks and the session came to a successful end.
