Association & Activities

ECOMET (Electronics and Communication Engineers & Technologists Association)

ECOMET (Electronics and Communication Engineers & Technologists Association) is the official academic association of the Department of  Electronics and Communication Engineering. It serves as a platform to promote technical knowledge, innovation, leadership, and professional development among students.

The association organizes a wide range of academic and technical activities that bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications. Regular events include subject lectures, guest lectures, and technology talks delivered by academicians and industry experts to keep students updated with emerging trends.

ECOMET actively contributes to Institutional Social Responsibility initiatives. Major activities include the Carbon Emission Reduction Initiative through a Palm Seed Plantation Drive and the university-level “Green Horizon: E-Waste Convergence” e-waste collection drive conducted in association with NSS and TES-AMM, promoting environmental sustainability and responsible recycling.

The association conducts professional society events sponsored by IETE, along with international seminars, technical workshops, certification programs, alumni interaction sessions, conferences, career guidance programs, faculty development programs, and various student club activities.

A significant achievement of ECOMET is securing a grant of ₹1,50,000 from DST-SERB for organizing the National Level Symposium – NSSA on Smart Agriculture, which brought together students, researchers, and experts to discuss innovative agricultural technologies.

In collaboration with the Centre of Excellence in Smart Agriculture, ECOMET is planning an 8-hour hackathon to encourage innovative solutions in the agricultural domain. The association has also initiated an SDG Conclave to promote awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The department has organized a total of 22 National Technical Symposiums under the KALAM series and 10 National Conferences to date. Recent events include KALAM’25, which saw participation from over 250 engineering students and 30 school students, and SILICON’26 under the theme “INSIGHT,” where students presented research papers and project innovations.

Association Day is observed annually to recognize student achievements, with awards presented for excellence in academics, technical activities, and departmental contributions.

ECOMET continues to support the holistic development of students by fostering innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence in Electronics and Communication Engineering.

Seminar on “Electronic Circuit Design Using Online Simulation Tools” held on 03 October 2024 under the IETE Student Forum (ISF), featuring a session by Dr. P. Mangayarkarasi with a live demonstration on modern circuit design platforms. Key takeaways included understanding the use of online tools like MATLAB, Tanner, and Tinkercad, hands-on exposure to circuit simulation, and insights into cost-effective and efficient electronic design.

Workshop on “Harnessing Machine Learning for Modern Electronics Engineering Solutions” held on 08 August 2025 under the IETE Student Forum (ISF), providing hands-on training in machine learning concepts, data preprocess sing, and applications in electronics and IoT. Key takeaways included practical exposure to supervised and unsupervised learning, real-world problem-solving skills, and improved confidence in applying ML techniques to engineering solutions.

Innovation Pitch Presentation held on 19 August 2025 under the IEI Student Chapter, recognising ECE students for their participation under the theme of United Nations SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure). III and IV year students received seed funding support for prototype development, along with opportunities for patent filing. The initiative was carried out under the guidance of Dr. U. Jayalatsumi, HOD/ECE, and Mr. Amuthanantham K, Assistant Professor, ECE.

Training at ICF Coach Factory conducted on 30 April 2025, providing students with real-time exposure to Vande Bharat train technologies and maintenance practices at Chennai Central. The visit enhanced their understanding of interdisciplinary applications in electronics, mechanical, and civil engineering, while creating awareness of modern innovations and challenges in railway systems. Key takeaways included insights into coach design, manufacturing processes, safety systems, and practical maintenance procedures, effectively bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world engineering applications. The event was coordinated by Mr. Amuthanantham K, Assistant Professor, ECE, with student coordinator Jashran Mohamed S.
