Four-Day Training Program on “Simulation in Chemical Engineering”
Date: 06.01.2025 – 09.01.2025
The Department of Chemical Engineering successfully organized a four-day training program on “Simulation in Chemical Engineering” in association with Sim Infosystems Pvt. Ltd. The program was designed to enhance the technical competency of staff and students by providing hands-on experience in process simulation using advanced software tools.
Day 1 – Introduction to Process Simulation
The training commenced with an overview of industrial process simulation using the Pro Simulation platform. Participants learned to model and analyze complex chemical processes such as distillation, reaction systems and separation techniques. The session focused on strengthening conceptual understanding and applying theoretical principles to real-world industrial scenarios.
Day 2 – Simulation of Industrial Equipment
The second day covered simulations of critical industrial components including:
- Ball Mills
- Cyclone Separators
- Centrifugal Pumps
Through interactive sessions, participants explored material flow dynamics, energy consumption patterns and particle separation efficiency. The hands-on approach enabled deeper understanding of equipment performance and operational behavior.
Day 3 – Furnace Simulation
The third day session was led by Mr. Suresh, Trainer, Sim Infosystems Pvt. Ltd., who provided detailed insights into the simulation of industrial furnaces. The session emphasized:
- Heat transfer mechanisms
- Combustion processes
- System efficiency optimization
This training bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and industrial application, enhancing analytical and problem-solving skills.
Day 4 – Advanced Simulation & Practical Applications
The final day focused on comprehensive simulation exercises, allowing participants to analyze system performance, troubleshoot operational challenges, and optimize industrial processes. The program significantly improved participant’s abilities in design, optimization and technical decision-making.
The department extends sincere gratitude to Mr. Suresh and Mr. Raguraman from Sim Infosystems Pvt. Ltd. for their expert guidance and technical support. Special thanks to Dr. K. Senthil Kumar, Dr. Karthikeyan (Dean – Purchase) and Dr. Kanya (Dean – Student Affairs) for their support. The department also expresses heartfelt thanks to the Honorable President for approving and procuring the required software to strengthen laboratory facilities.
The training program proved to be a valuable learning experience, equipping staff and students with essential simulation skills to meet evolving industrial demands.
One-Day Training Program on “Transportation of Hazardous Chemicals”
Date: 04.02.2025
The Department of Chemical Engineering organized a one-day training program on “Transportation of Hazardous Chemicals” for final-year students. The session provided valuable insights into supply chain management and the safe handling of hazardous materials, combining theoretical knowledge with practical exposure.
The program covered key aspects such as stages of the supply chain, hazardous chemical classification, safety regulations, and best practices for transporting dangerous goods. Students gained a clear understanding of regulatory compliance and the importance of coordination in logistics operations.
The training was conducted under the guidance of industry experts, and the session was coordinated by Dr. N. Jaya Chitra, Head of the Department, Chemical Engineering. A major highlight of the program was the hands-on experience with warehouse vehicles, including forklifts and pallet jacks, along with practical insights into heavy vehicle transportation and safety procedures.
The department expresses its sincere gratitude to the Honorable President for supporting and permitting the conduct of this domain-specific training program, which significantly enhanced students’ practical knowledge and industry readiness.
Skill Development Course on Sustainable Waste Management Strategies (SWMS)
Date: 03.03.2025 to 10.03.2025
The Department of Chemical Engineering organized a five-day Skill Development Course on Sustainable Waste Management Strategies (SWMS) from 03.03.2025 to 10.03.2025.
The inaugural address was delivered by Dr. N. Jaya Chitra, Head of the Department, and Mr. E. Srinivasan, Deputy HOD.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Baskaran, Chairman of IWMA, shared insights on sustainable waste practices.
Dr. A. U. Santhoskumar presented a session on solid waste disposal methods.
Mr. M. Pannerselvam discussed community initiatives through ExNoRa International.
Mrs. A. Francis Panimathy addressed emerging waste challenges such as e-waste and biomedical waste.
Dr. K. Sujatha explained biological treatment of solid and hazardous waste.
Mr. P. Pratap from RESIEMSL delivered a session on hazardous waste management fundamentals.
Mr. E. Srinivasan elaborated on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
Mr. D. Dharanidharan presented the concept of Circular Economy.
Mr. Gowri Prasad discussed Environmental Risk Analysis and mitigation strategies.
Sessions also covered physico-chemical treatment methods and Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.
Participants gained practical exposure through industrial visits to waste treatment and recycling facilities at Gummidipoondi, SIPCOT.
The program enhanced students’ technical knowledge and environmental responsibility.
The course concluded with a valedictory ceremony and certificate distribution on 10.03.2025.
Skill Development Course on “Sustainable Waste Management Strategies”

The Department of Chemical Engineering, in collaboration with the Industrial Waste Management Association (IWMA), organized a five-day Skill Development Course on “Sustainable Waste Management Strategies” for First Year Engineering & Technology students. The course aimed to create awareness on modern waste management practices and promote sustainable engineering solutions.
The program was inaugurated by Dr. Malini Pande, Additional Registrar – Planning and Development, who emphasized the importance of continuous learning and environmental responsibility. The felicitation address was delivered by Dr. N. S. Shubhashree, Joint Registrar (E&T) and encouraging students to actively engage in practical learning initiatives.
Technical sessions were conducted by eminent speakers including Dr. N. Jaya Chitra, Professor & Head, who elaborated on industrial waste treatment methods; Mr. E. Srinivasan, Assistant Professor, who discussed sustainable and plastic waste management strategies; Mr. K. Baskaran, Chairman – IWMA, who addressed solid and biomedical waste management practices and Mr. Dharanidharan, CSR Executive – IWMA, who explained the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016. Industry experts such as Mr. R. Jayakumar, Mr. P. Pratap, Mr. N. Tamilmanian and Ms. A. Fransis Panimathy also shared valuable insights on e-waste, hazardous waste, pharmaceutical waste, and plastic management.
The course concluded with a valedictory function and certificate distribution, marking a significant step towards fostering environmental awareness and sustainable practices among future engineers.
Orientation Program for First Year B.Tech Chemical Engineering students
The Department of Chemical Engineering organized an Orientation Program for First Year B.Tech Chemical Engineering students on 4th August at the Research Office Seminar Hall. The session featured Mr. Raghuraman, Head – Sales & Marketing, Sim Infosystems Pvt. Ltd., as the Chief Guest. The program included addresses by university dignitaries and faculty members, highlighting industry collaboration, research opportunities, skill development, and career prospects in Chemical Engineering.
