ISR IN ACTION – ENDING HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS”
Date : 2nd October 2025
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Main Campus, Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute organized an impactful ISR activity titled “ISR in Action: Ending Hunger and Homelessness” on 2nd October 2025. This initiative was instigated by Professor Dr. A. Manoj Babu, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, who envisioned mobilizing the department’s resources and student talent towards social welfare.
The event was seamlessly coordinated by Assistant Professor Mr. D. A. Vinoth, along with dedicated volunteers Mr. N. Siva, Mr. G. Jebin Vijayakumar, Mr. Nagendara Balaji, and Mr. Santhosh. Final and third-year mechanical engineering students showed enthusiastic participation, exemplifying the spirit of institutional social responsibility. The program focused on providing essential items such as blankets, cotton towels, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, water bottles, umbrellas, and biscuits to homeless individuals who were sleeping on the roadside. To further enhance the comfort of the beneficiaries, bonfires were arranged, creating warmth and a supportive atmosphere during the outreach.
The event aimed not only to supply immediate necessities but also to foster a sense of empathy, dignity, and community engagement among the student body. By distributing basic hygiene products and necessities, the initiative addressed critical needs while encouraging socially responsible behavior in future engineers. It sought to directly contribute to Sustainable Development Goals related to poverty alleviation, health, and well-being, signifying the role educational institutions play in holistic societal development. The successful coordination between faculty, volunteers, and students ensured the smooth execution of the activities, reinforcing the Integral Social Responsibility framework promoted within the academic environment.
This initiative inspired a greater awareness of societal challenges and motivated participants to envision continuing their contributions beyond the event, embedding service-oriented values in their professional and personal lives. A note of deep gratitude is extended on behalf of the Department of Mechanical Engineering for the continuous encouragement and motivation provided by the honorable President Er. A.C.S. Arun Kumar and other executives. Their unwavering support was instrumental in shaping the planning and execution phases of this event, underpinning the department’s commitment to socially conscious education. The administration’s role in fostering an enabling environment allowed for the innovative and compassionate approach demonstrated through this ISR activity.
