Indigenous Lithium Recovery Technology along with DRDO handed over to the Indian Armed Forces
Indigenous Lithium Recovery Technology Handed over by Er. S. Karthikeyan (Director- DR MGR-ARI TI) to the Indian Armed Forces on December 2, 2025, at DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi under the chairmanship of Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat.
Key Highlights of the Technology:
- Strategic Resource Security: Lithium is classified as a strategic mineral vital for national security. This technology allows India to recover critical materials domestically, directly supporting the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by reducing heavy import dependence.
- Powering the Modern Battlefield: Recovered lithium precursors are essential for defence energy storage solutions, providing the lifeblood for military drones and electric vehicles.
- Environmental Excellence: This "environmentally friendly" process promotes a circular energy economy. By recycling spent batteries, we ensure resource efficiency and protect the environment while building defence capabilities.
- Proven Performance: Rigorously designed and extensively tested by Indian industry experts in close collaboration with DRDO specialists and the Tri-services.
