Admission into this prestigious institute is merit-based, while consideration is given to norms set by the respective statutory councils like the AICTE, DCI, MCI, INC, PCI and NCTE. Admission is open to students from all over the world who will be selected on the basis of an entrance exam. The university provides adequate representation to students coming from the underprivileged sections of society. Physically challenged students and students who excel in sports are also given preference.

The University has adopted a flexible credit-based system, with high standards in the design of its educational system. The B. Tech degree programmes are divided into eight semesters, while the Master’s degree programmes are split into four semesters. Part-time Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses are also available, Keeping in mind the needs of working professionals the classes are conducted in the evenings.


General Procedure

Admissions of students to courses under E&T, Humanities and Sciences, Computer Applications and Para Medical Courses are done through All India Entrance Examination, MGREEE and based on Merit in the qualifying Exams and Personal Interview. Admission of candidates to Engineering courses qualified through AIEEE/CSAB is also ensured.  Admission to Architecture courses is done based on Marks in qualifying Exam and NATA as per COA Regulation.  Admission to MBBS, BDS and MDS is done based on NEET marks and Ranks, and by counselling by DGHS, Govt. of India.  No On-line admission test is conducted.


MGR Engineering Entrance Examination (MGREEE) :

All India Common Entrance Examination is conducted for all the courses every year (i.e) MGR Engineering Entrance Examination (MGREEE) in the following places: Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkota, New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Tirupati , Cochin, Patna, Ranchi, Lucknow, Bhopal.

Reservation Policy of the Government is followed subject to availability of students under each category. 


Admission Policy for NRI and Overseas students :

Admission of Non – Resident Indians (NRI)/Persons of Indian Origin (PIO/Foreign students to Institutions deemed to be Universities shall be governed by the Guidelines/Regulations framed by the Commission in this behalf from time to time


NRI / Foreign Students Admission Procedure

Admission of Foreign / NRI Students:

Foreign / NRI Students who wish to study at our University are required to fulfill the admission procedure, complete relevant admission forms, provide all necessary documents and pay the processing, Eligibility and Tuition Fees.

For admission to specific program, the requirement of subjects studied shall be same for both National / Foreign Students / NRI as prescribed in the Admission Prospectus.


 Eligibility for Admission to Graduate Program:

For any discipline, applicant must have completed 12 years of formal schooling. Students meeting the eligibility criteria as prescribed in the Admission prospectus would be considered for admission. Evidence of required academic performance must be in the form of certified English transcripts listing all the courses with grades or marks earned. Transcripts in languages other than English are not acceptable.


 Eligibility for Admission to Post Graduate Program:

For any discipline, applicant must have completed 12 years   of formal education at the school level followed by a Bachelor’s Degree of at least 3 years duration. Students meeting the eligibility criteria as prescribed in the Admission to prospectus would be considered for admission. However, the admission to post graduates courses is rather restricted and the applicant should have excellent academic record to stand a fair chance for admission.


Procedure for Applying and seeking Equivalence Certificate:

Admission Application Form of Foreign / NRI students must have an Equivalence Certificate form the Association of Indian Universities (AIU),

The students are advised to send the following documents to the Association of Indian Universities for obtaining Equivalence certificate:

  1. Degree / Certificates together with the year – wise Academic Transcript duly authenticated by the Indian Embassy in the Country or its concerned Foreign Mission in India.

  2. Accreditation Status of the University / Institute which the student has last attended.

  3. Copies of the academic Certificates from Higher Secondary onwards (Where necessary)

The SERVICE CHARGE for issue of Equivalence Certificate as applicable is payable through Demand Drafts in favour of Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi”.

The onus of certificate for Equivalence from AIU is on the candidate and application will be considered only after Equivalence Certificate id submitted.


Provisional offer of Admission will be given to short listed applicants subject to confirmation based on the following:

  • If the Student is eligible for the said program and theres a seat available for the course applied for, then a provisional eligibility letter will be issued.

  • This provisional eligibility cum admission letter will enable the student to obtain a Student Visa from the Indian Mission in his / her home country.

  • Only on the production of a Student Visa, endorsed to Our University, the student will be given the final admission to the course of his / her choice, provided a seat in that particular course is available at the point of time.

  • The Student has no bear in mind that the student needs to come and report within the time frame started in the Provisional Admission letter.

  • Student   Visa endorsed to Our University for joining full time course..

  • No other endorsement will be accepted. The visa should be valid for the prescribed duration of the course.

  • Submission of fitness certificate from Medical Practitioner OR a Medical Practitioner nominated by Our University.

  • Adequate Medical Insurance Cover.

  • All Foreign / NRI students will be required to register themselves with the concerned District Foreigner Registration Officers / Foreigners Regional Registration Officers, within 14 days of their first arrival in India.

The following documents are required at the time of registration with the Foreigners registration Officer

  • Photocopy of passport and visa

  • Four Photographs

  • Details of Residence in India

  • HIV / AIDS Test Report from one of the WHO recognized Institutions.

Application form for Engg & Tech / Arch / MBBS / BDS / Nursing / Physiotherapy / Pharmacy / Humanities and Sciences and other courses with prospectus Rs.1000 /-.Application by post can be obtained with extra Rs.100 /- by DD in favour of "Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute", payable at Chennai with full address of the applicant .

The selected candidates will have to pay the prescribed fees as mentioned in the Admission Form. The fees can be paid by cash or by Demand Draft in favour of Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute, payable at Chennai. Fees once paid is not refundable under any circumstances.
