GENESIS

  • Mechanical Engineering Department is in operation since 1988, right from the inception of Dr. M.G.R. Engineering College, promoted by Tmt. Kannammal Educational Trust. Our department made a humble beginning in 1988 with a Bachelorís programme with an in-take of 60 students.

  • The Department started M.Tech programme in Industrial Engineering and Design Engineering from the year 2002.

  • The department was accredited by NBA with B 3 grade in the year 2002.

  • The Institute acquired the Deemed University status in the year 2003.

  • The University accredited by NAAC with B+ grade in Feb2007.

Vision:

To educate, nurture and motivate the upcoming engineering professionals with moral and ethical values to become a committed punctilious engineers to the nation.

 

Mission:

  • Providing quality education through well structured curricula supplemented with practical training, guest lectures by eminent professionals, field visits to leading industries and also in-plant training.

  • Enhancing teacher skills through faculty development programmes.

  • Providing ambience for innovative projects and extra-curricular activities

  • Equipping the department with   contemporary infra-structure and the state of art R&D    centre to cater to the needs of research scholars and industries

  • Providing training to students in emerging areas like robotics and CAD/CAM.

  • Nurturing students having creative ideas to adopt innovative projects which can be subsequently commercialized.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEO)

  • Graduates will learn and utilize the basics of science and Mechanical Engineering knowledge to excel in their Industrial, Academic, Research and entrepreneurship career.

  • Graduates will contribute to the society as technically educated, ethical and responsible citizens with proven expertise.

  • Graduates will fulfill their goals with thrive to pursue lifelong learning with creativity and innovation.

Programme Outcomes (POs)

  • An ability to understand fundamental Mathematics, Basic sciences and adapt it into various Engineering applications.

  • An ability to understand the knowledge of heat energy dynamics and applications, heat transfer mechanism and fluid flow.

  • An ability to understand the mechanics of fluids and machineries.

  • An ability to design and synthesis of mechanisms, machine elements and structural members and import drafting skills with modern methods

  • An ability to understand the knowledge of the structure of machines, manufacturing process, properties and behavior of materials, and various testing methods.

  • An ability to understand the principles of various mathematical techniques like optimization techniques, numerical interpolation techniques, design of experiment techniques and statistics in quality aspects.

  • An ability to understand on multi-disciplinary events like electrical drives, electronics and microprocessor devices, Mechatronics, transducers and control theories.

  • An ability to design a system, components and process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, ethical and safety and create an opportunity to realize an industrial condition.

  • An ability to understand the computational complexity in various fields and use the modern computer tools.
